The Kimakia Forest Hike is a full-day adventure into one of the most untouched and rewarding trails in Murang’a County. Located within the southern Aberdare forest block, this trail gives you a rare chance to experience raw nature just a few hours from Nairobi.
Your journey begins on wide forest service roads, weaving through indigenous trees before narrowing into thick jungle paths. The hike takes you through river crossings, steep muddy trails, and mossy rocks that test your footing and immerse you in true wilderness.
One of the highlights is a hidden double-drop waterfall, tucked away at the end of the trail. Here, hikers can enjoy a cool swim in its natural pools or simply relax in the forest’s quiet echo.
Covering approximately 15 km and taking 6–8 hours to complete, the Kimakia Forest Hike offers something for every nature lover — from forest photography to adventure hiking and even a cold river dip. It’s a pure, rugged, and deeply refreshing escape into the heart of the Aberdares.
